WORKSHOPS
Scheduled workshops usually run about 4 hours, with an hour of introduction and the rest of the time in the field with one or more experienced trackers. The workshop is designed for beginning and intermediate trackers and docents of various institutions. We review the basics of tracking and bird language and then spend the rest of the time actually tracking local animals. In the field we explore track ID, gaits, substrate, food chain, sign and scat analysis, marking behavior, how to enter the animal's mind, native and contemporary tracking culture, grounding, the Art of seeing, hearing and smelling, bird language--and much more. You should come out of the day feeling confident you can recognize some of the common local animal tracks, scat, and sign--and that you are launched as a tracker.
This is basically the same workshop put on for the Santa Rosa Junior College and the courses I taught at Pepperwood Nature Preserve, at Pt. Reyes National Seashore, Sonoma Land Trust, Bohemia Ranch and also for docent training elsewhere. Scheduled Workshops are located at the CALENDAR and can be scheduled separately for individuals and small groups.
I also make presentations about tracking to schools. I am interested in integrating tracking into the school crriculum at all levels, because the study of tracking is one of the oldest human occupations and one that focuses on awareness, motivation, problem solving skills, character development, community, and self-confidence. Some of my ongoing students are teachers, doctors, lawyers, ministers, Rabbis, etc who are using tracking to enhance their professional lives. Contact me for details.
